Welcome to Bullhead City
Bullhead City has also been referred to as Arizona‘s West Coast because the City is located on the east bank of the Colorado River near the juncture of Arizona, California and Nevada. Bullhead City serves as the economic hub and retail shopping center for Western Mohave County and Southeastern Clark County, Nevada. It’s easily accessible by major highways and a short drive from Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas. The modern beginnings of the city were revived with the construction of Davis Dam, which broke ground in 1942, but had to be halted because World War II consumed necessary construction materials.
Construction resumed in 1946, a year after the war ended, and the dam was completed in 1950, which impounds Lake Mohave in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The dam is named after the late Arthur Powell Davis, Director of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation from 1914 until 1923. Construction workers on the project lived with their families at the foot of the dam in a community called Davis Camp. Nearby, a town sprang up from the remains of Hardyville to support the growing population. The town was named Bullhead City after a rock island in the Colorado River that resembled the head and shoulders of a bull with large, curved horns. The Bullhead City post office was established in 1946, and the rock was submerged under the rising water of Lake Mohave as it backed up behind Davis Dam in the early 1950s. In the 1960s developers began advertising local subdivisions in Southern California, and the retirement population began to grow. The City’s population has grown from just over 10,000 residents in 1980 to more than 40,000, according to the 2010 Census.
A little bit of old Italy.
Very good food, especially the Lasagna and baked Ziti. Pizza is ok, but have had better. But huge portions on dinners. Plus garlic bread with dipping sauce to snack on. Full bar. Reasonably priced. Decor is like stepping back in the 30’s old New York City Italian restaurant. Plays great music too.
A gem in Bullhead City!
Living in the tri-state area means not having many choices for Italian cuisine. Fortunately there is Colianno’s! Daily specials are more than reasonably priced. The menu offers a full gamut of choices. The wine list is acceptable. The sauce is delicious and flavorful. Some spices come through powerfully but the taste is very good. Dinner meals are preceded by hot bread with a dipping sauce. There are lots of traditional choices and pizza is very good and very popular.
The servers are friendly, helpful, and efficient. Wednesday evenings you can hear Emma play Italian classics on the accordion!
The decor is Italianate to the max but I like it! Located on a busy highway (AZ Highway 95) Colianno’s is my go-to Italian restaurant!
Met friends there for dinner. It was packed! Fortunately our friend called and made a reservation. Hubby had the Monday night special and was amazed at how huge the portion was. I had Chicken Marsala..oh my goodness it was delicious and again a huge portion. It was our first time there and we will definitely be returning!
If you love Italian food you have to eat here.
We absolutely love this restaurant, although we learned early on that it’s usually wise to decide on something and share it. Your meal starts with a plate of garlic bread fresh out of the oven with warm marinara sauce for dipping. The last time we were there we had a ‘small’ calzone that was the size of a dinner plate. We shared it and then took the leftovers with us! Their pasta dishes are fresh and flavourful and the sauces are remarkable.
A Bullhead City Treasure
While traveling through Bullhead City in search of cheap gas (Arco is across the street) we stumbled upon this prize. We loved the atmosphere and Sinatra memorabilia and music, the “locals” clientele and the wonderful food. The minestrone is excellent and prices and service are great. Our waitress Holly helped make our experience even better.
A hidden gem
Great service and food. I am vegetarian & had a great meal. Friends had clams and meat which they said was fine. Desserts 🍮 were very tasty.
